Action Plans for EDLD 5352 Cohorts

Wow! You guys have done an absolutely amazing job of creating action plans for your campus. Many of the plans have inspired me to suggest that we implement some of the ideas in our 2011-2012 CIP for the campus. Creating my plan on PPT was one way in which I thought that I could make it more visually appealing. However, once I began to use the template from Microsoft, I quickly realized why templates are just that TEMPLATES! :) I had a problem with downsizing the wording and also taking off the shadow that was preset. Next time, I will know how to adjust these as I am currently searching for the answer to this.

I loved Kelli's idea to use Netbooks and Webtools to assess students knowledge and proficiency levels. I also liked that fact that know I know that the STAR chart can be used as a true assessment tool for levels of proficiency. I noticed that the majority of the cohort used the STAR chart as their tool of assessment.

Web Conference with Dr. Cummings and the crew! (3-16-11)

First let me say that after taking 3 Motrin after the webinar, I was back to normal :). The web conference was VERY stimulating. Trying to have 30 people all simultaneously asking questions and dialoguing is almost like hitting a hornets nest with a stick! Most of the questions from the webinar were in reference to what steps to take in order to complete the ILD and also the LCE. Many it appeared had never perused Dr. Cortez's website. I say this because many of the questions that were asked could have been answered by going to this site. But Dr. Cummings was so gracious in repeatedly answering the questions time and again. From the looks of the students faces with webcams, most appeared to either be bored with the conference or frustrated with the notion of taking an hour of time to hear students qualms. I found it to be a mixture of both irritation (trying to keep up with the dialogue) as well as amusment (that technology is this advanced - I still remember the days of Atari).

Are Educators being Prepared well enough to survive the 21st Century?

"Today is an exciting and challenging time for those who prepare the educators of tomorrow," said Sharon P. Robinson, Ed.D., president and CEO of AACTE. "In order to meet the demands of the profession, AACTE is leading efforts to help its member institutions more effectively embed 21st century knowledge and skills into their programs so new teacher candidates are properly prepared to integrate them into their classroom practice."

Due to the promise of the New Administration to spend upwards of $235 million on teacher preparation and $170 on leader preparation, this in itself will create a transfomational change in the way we view or teachers and leaders. The education that many americans received in the past simply will not do if we are to compete on a global spectrum. Education, as President Obama has said, "is no longer just a pathway to opportunity and success—it's a prerequisite to success."
As veteran teachers are retiring and being asked to retire, we face a shortage of experienced teachers in areas where they would be most needed, in impoverished areas. It's not easy leading as a prinicpal or teacher in areas of such high dysfunction.

Therefore, we must prepare our teachers and future administrators for the challenge that is at hand. At times it seems to be a daunting change with so many changes in demographics and socio-economic statuses. But if we are to prepare our students the way they should be prepared to not land in the bottom 10% of the global workforce then it is imperative we get "our act" together.

SIP - Action Research Plan - Motivating Teachers

Action Planning Template Tool 7.1

Teacher Motivation Inquiry –

How can we motivate our teachers toward a common purpose on campus?

How can administration facilitate a positive school culture and climate?

What techniques and strategies are effective and efficient in boosting teacher morale?

Goals:

1) Teachers will work towards a common purpose and goals for our students education and the success of the campus.

2) Teachers will begin to see themselves as belonging to one campus instead of two separate campuses.

3) Teachers and Administrators will work to create cohesiveness and a positive climate on campus as one campus.

a. Kimberly Daigle, ILT Committee Members and Site Supervisor, Rachel DeLeon

b. I will present the research topic during our 1st week back on campus, August 16 – 20, 2010. I will finalize this research by September 20.

c. The study will allow for an open forum so that teachers will not feel intimidate by asking questions and making suggestions for improvement of morale.

d. I will create a page on Schoology for the teachers and assist them in the creations of their accounts.

3) Book study by ILT, administration, and myself.

a. Began during the first week of school and continue throughout first semester – will meet monthly beginning August 18

b. We will discuss outcomes of Daniel Pink’s views, and how they contradict what has been happening in education forever. We will then began to view strategies that are offered in book that can be implemented at our campus.

Create a teacher web-blog on Schoology that focuses on creating better attitudes and morale among teachers on campus.

Review PLC polices at school, and devise creative ways that will help build campus morale.

Kimberly Daigle, ILT Committee, Site Supervisor, Rachel DeLeon.

We will begin Phase I of the research during our in-service week August 16 – 20. We will have on-going discussions during our monthly ILT Meeting.

We will begin a book study on the book Fish! A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results.

I will give an end of year blog-survey to see if the attitudes and morale is any different from the attitudes and morale at the beginning of the year.

End projection of research project May 25, 2011

After surveys are compiled we will discuss and decide what strategies were effective and also if there is a need to do more inquires in a different direction
